Hi, I’m Mikey and the founder of passthemsticks. I’m just a 24 year old guy who has a passion for playing video games, and the desire to talk about them. I enjoy sharing my opinions of games and industry trends, even though they don’t always follow the popular opinion. I will voice what I feel, and anyone is welcome to disagree. That’s what the comments are for.
Where did the site name come from?
I actually thought of the name for the site years ago, when the Dreamcast was still relevant and the ps2 was relatively new. I was at my friend Devon’s house and we were playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2. We had gone back and forth for much of the afternoon, which me winning just a few more games than he did. As we entered what was to be the final match of the day, it was very close, but in the end, my Guile avoid defeat with his upside down kick. I jumped up to celebrate my victory and hold him to “pass them sticks.” We actually discussed the possibility to making the site back then, but I didn’t have the means to do it. Now, I do.
What kind of gamer are you?
Seeing as I’m running a gaming blog, this is a valid question to ask. I see myself as a hardcore gamer, but not obsessive. I own and play a lot of games, but I’m not on a quest to top any leaderboards or pour hours into a game that I don’t like. I don’t buy every popular game that comes out, nor to I tend to buy them at release (though this may change).
My system of choice is the 360 (though I hope to add a ps3 to my collection soon, and a Vita when it comes out). My favorite genre is JRPGs (I do consider them a different genre from WRPG because they are dramatically different), as I grew up on them. I’ve played and completed over 75 different JRPGs thus far.
I do enjoy playing just about anything, though. I like fighters, but not to the extent I used to. I’m just not good at them anymore. I love first-person shooters and puzzle games, and I fancy platformers, too. I’m not huge on third-person shooters, but I still play plenty of them. I’ve never cared much for the do-it-all sandbox games, but I’m trying to give those games another shot. But basically, if it looks interesting, I’ll try it. Even if it got bad reviews elsewhere, it still deserves a chance.
My goal for passthemsticks.com is to become a solid resource for my fellow gamers to come to where they can get info on different games – whether it be a review, a guide, or whatever – from someone who plays by his own rules. Everything is so standardized that it’s practically all the same. I want to give a new perspective on the industry as I see it. I don’t want this to be a news reporting site, nor am I trying to overtake any other larger sites.
I just want to put out great content and hopefully, help some other people out.
